Roger Federer- The Swiss Maestro

Roger Federer, often regarded as one of the greatest tennis player of all time (G.O.A.T). Roger Federer is one of the four players included in “BIG FOUR” of tennis. Even at the age of 36 years, he is competing at his highest level and winning 7 Titles in 2017, till now. He started his career as professional tennis player in year 1998. Although, Roger Federer got break through and came into limelight when he defeated Pete Sampras and break his 31-matches winning streak at Wimbledon, 2001 in 4th Round. From their journey of great Roger Federer started to take turn and soon, world see him as one of the greatest player in tennis. Roger Federer won his 1st Grandslam at Wimbledon in year 2003 and achieved World No. 1 ranking in year 2004 for the very first time in his career.

Roger Federer is a record holder for being most no. of weeks as No. 1 in ATP Rankings. He remained their for 302 weeks in total and 237 weeks continuously. Roger Federer has won 19 Grand slams in his career which is a record in Men’s tennis in open era.  In total, he has won 95 titles in his long span career and is 2nd in all-time list for most no. of titles, only behind Jimmy Connors (109 Titles). Roger Federer, as of 2017, is the most valuable athlete in the world, according to Forbes, leaving likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, LeBron James etc.

He is among one of eight men to have won a career Grand Slam, i.e. to win all four Grand Slams at least once in his career and one of four players to have won a career Grand Slam on three different surfaces, hard, grass and clay courts. He has reached 29 Grand Slams finals which is highest by any tennis player. Federer has won 8 Wimbledon titles, an all-time record. He is the only male player to have reached 11 finals at a single Grand Slam event (Wimbledon). He is the only player to win three different Grand Slams at least 5 times (Australian Open, Wimbledon, and US Open) and is the only player to win two Grand Slams five consecutive times at Wimbledon from 2003–07 and the US Open from 2004–08. Federer has also registered a 56-match win streak on hard courts which is the all-time record. He has highest no. of times won ATP Finals (Finale of Top 8 Tennis Player) i.e. for 6 times.

Roger Federer has been the winner of four Consecutive Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsman of the Year, which is known as Oscar of Sports, which is highest by any sports person. Federer was selected by fellow players as winner of the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 12 times (2004-2009, 2011-2016). Fans voted for him to receive the ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite Award for a 14th straight year (2003-2016). Since his Grand Slam winning debut in 2003, Federer has won a record total of 33 ATP World Tour Awards. He also stands at the 1st place in highest career prize money.
